Traffic Control

Traffic Control - Construxion Pro User Guide

Road construction often requires traffic control — managing road closures, flagging, signs, and barriers to keep the public safe. Construxion Pro supports both in-house TC operations and subcontracted TC.

Company TC Configuration

Set up traffic control in Settings > Traffic Control:

TC Mode

ModeMeaning
NoneCompany doesn't do traffic control
In-HouseCompany handles TC with their own crews and equipment
SubcontractorTC is outsourced to a subcontractor
BothSome jobs are in-house, others are subcontracted

In-House Setup

  • Create or link a TC division — a special division marked is_traffic_control = true
  • Only one TC division allowed per company

Subcontractor Setup

  • Set a default TC subcontractor — the subcontractor company used for TC work unless overridden per-job

Jurisdictions

TC numbers come from the jurisdictions your company has linked in Settings > Traffic Control. If a jurisdiction you work with isn't in the list, add it there with Add Jurisdiction (Advanced plan; anyone who can edit company settings). It shows up only for your company, marked Custom, and jobs and inspector documents can file by it right away. A jurisdiction you add has no TC numbers of its own.

Per-Job TC Configuration

Each job has its own TC settings on the Details tab:

  1. Traffic Control Required — Toggle on/off
  2. TC Mode — Overrides company default for this specific job (In-House or Subcontractor)
  3. TC Subcontractor — For subcontractor mode, select the specific subcontractor

Editing TC Settings

Click the pencil icon on the TC section of the Details tab to open the Edit TC Dialog:

  • Single-mode company (only in-house OR only subcontractor): Shows an info card explaining the current mode. To enable "Both," go to Settings > Traffic Control.
  • Both-mode company: Shows toggle buttons to switch between In-House and Subcontractor for this job, plus a subcontractor dropdown.

TC Tab on Jobs

The Traffic Control tab appears on a job only when:

  • traffic_control_required is true, AND
  • The resolved TC mode is in_house

(If TC is subcontracted, there's no in-app TC tab — that work is managed externally.)

The TC tab contains:

  • TC setups — Traffic control plans and configurations
  • TC numbers — Traffic control reference numbers
  • Daily TC records — Daily traffic control activity logs

Which tab does what: the TC mode (in-house vs subcontractor, and whether TC is required at all) is edited on the Details tab via the pencil on its Traffic Control section. The plans themselves — setups, TC numbers, and daily records — live here on the Traffic Control tab. If you can't find where to change something, check the other tab first.

Working with TC setups (plans)

A TC setup is one traffic-control plan on the job — where the control is, what devices are out, and its daily activity records.

Adding a setup

  1. Open the job's Traffic Control tab.
  2. Click Add Setup (in the Active Setups header, or the button on the empty state).
  3. Name it and fill in the plan details, then save. The first setup on a job is the primary setup.

Editing a setup

  • Click the pencil on the setup's card (or open the card's ⋯ menu → Edit Setup).
  • Change the details and save. The setup's daily records and TC numbers are unaffected by edits to the plan itself.

Primary vs additional setups

  • The primary setup mirrors the job's TC configuration and can't be deleted — the Delete option shows disabled with an explanation. Additional setups can be deleted.
  • You can rename any setup, including the primary.

Completing and reopening

  • When a control is picked up, use the card's ⋯ menu → Mark Complete. Completed setups move to the Completed section; Reopen brings one back if work resumes.

Daily records

  • Each setup's + Daily Record button logs that day's TC activity — labor, equipment on site, setup/pickup counts, photos, and notes. Records feed TC billing.

TC Mode Resolution

The effective TC mode for a job is determined by:

  1. Job-level override (jobs.tc_mode) — If set, this takes precedence
  2. Company default (company_settings.tc_mode) — Falls back to this

The resolveJobTCMode() utility handles this logic. If the company mode is "none" and the job has no override, TC features are hidden entirely.
